Is the EX2-1055 kit safe to use a hydrocopper card?

Complete water cooling systems (for example: Exos-2.5, PC5-1336, etc.)...

Is the EX2-1055 kit safe to use a hydrocopper card?

Postby Nulltime » Mon Oct 31, 2011 11:27 am

Hey all!

Very new to this but had some help from a friend and decided on the EXOS 2.5 EX2-1055 kit.

I have the last of the fittings comming into today to get this hooked up and just now learned that this system may be a problem with my video cards.

I wanted to make sure this was safe to use with the EVGA 480 GTX FTW Hydrocopper card.

I got a Hydrocopper 280 GTX to use with it (physix only) as well and this one at least appears to be a no go due to the radiator being aluminum :(

Can anyone tell me if this will be a problem with the 480 as well? There seem to be people using it with the 580s

I tried to look around on the net but nothing is clear one way or the other.

Do I need to box it back up and return it and hand build something due to the radiator being the wrong metal type?

If the fluid both touches copper and aluminum you will have issues.

I'm pretty sure with the Exos units the fluid still touches raw aluminum.

I know older EVGA hydrocopper blocks the fluid touched raw copper. I'm not sure if they are plating the copper now so the fluid no longer touches the copper or not. If it is coated so the the fluid doesn't touch copper than it should be safe. If it doe still touch copper than it is not safe.

So I got the system all hooked up and ready to go.

One thing I did notice on the Koolance High Performance Fluid bottle was that is specifically said "safe for mixed metal systems"

Would that indicate I should be ok in the short term regardless?
