Adding Liquid Cooling to my system.. I have questions!

Complete water cooling systems (for example: Exos-2.5, PC5-1336, etc.)...

Adding Liquid Cooling to my system.. I have questions!

Postby Danielle76 » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:46 am

My system is mostly compleat as is but I would like to replace my H100 with a nice Koolance system for cooling my CPU.... but I also plan to cool:

Processor: 1 x AMD FX-8150
RAM: CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 ( 4x4GB @ 2133MHz )

Video card: 1-2x SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6990 ( I have one as of now but I am very likely to add another so the cooling system I build must be able to dissipate enough heat from 2 6990)

that means at the very least 400W for each 6990, one 800W cooling loop

and I like to have another 400W-600W for my CPU+Ram

My chassis is a LianLi PC-V2120 so I have ample space (I can fit a 3 by 120mm rad + a 2 by 140mm rad)

the only thing that is bothering me is that I am unsure if by using that I can get enough of a performance increase that its worth it... I also must fit everything within the chassis itself. my current plan is this part list:

1 HX-CU1402V Radiator, 2x140mm 30-FPI Copper [no nozzles]
2 PMP-450 Pump, PMP-450 [13mm, 1/2in ID]
1 HX-CU1020V Radiator, 3x120mm 30-FPI Copper [no nozzles]
1 RP-452X2 RP-452X2 Dual 5.25in Reservoir for 1-2 PMP-450/S Pumps, Rev.1.3
4 NZL-L13P Nozzle Pair, Swivel Angled [For ID: 13mm (1/2in), OD: 16mm (5/8in)]
1 CPU-370 CPU-370 (CPU), 1.5mm Midplate [no nozzles]
2 NZL-V13P Nozzle Pair, Compression [For ID: 13mm (1/2in), OD: 16mm (5/8in)]
4 RAM-33 RAM-33 (Single DDR/DDR2/DDR3/SD) [no nozzles]
3 CNT-MEAU Sliding 180-Degree U Connector
1 TMS-205 TMS-205 Software Thermal Interface Controller
1 TMS-EB205 TMS-EB205 Expansion Board
2 LIQ-702CL-B Koolance LIQ-702 Liquid Coolant Bottle, High-Performance, 700mL (Colorless)
10 HOS-13BK Tubing, Black PVC, 1ft/30.5cm [ID: 13mm (1/2in); OD: 16mm (5/8in)]
1 VID-AR699 VID-AR699 (Radeon HD 6990) [no nozzles]

(plus fans + temp sensors + splitters)

It would be great to build this with only one HX-CU1020V

You can probably get away with just a 3x120 rad however your fan speeds will have to be higher compared to having a 3x120 + 2x140 rad.

When my VID-AR699 arrives I'll be putting a 1x120 rad back in so that I'm running 3x120 + 1x120 simply for the sake of being able to further turn down my fan speeds. If I was going to put in 2x6990's instead of just the one I'd start hacking the bottom the the 800D to put a rad down in the bottom near the PSU instead of the 1x120 and put in a 2x140 or something similar, again to keep fan speeds down.

Also please note that the power requirements for the 6990 are 375W for bios 1 and 450W for bios 2 before any additional overclocking.

Don't need to hack the bottom of the case Iz just pick up an external radiator and put it next to the computer, that's something I might get this year.
