about to buy a lot... [which fittings & quick disconnects?]

Postby stevenazari » Tue Jan 01, 2013 4:52 pm

hey all :) I am building a watercooling project and need some advice...
here is a diagram of my loop...
Image

Q1. I am going to have 3 gpus, but how many gpu connectors do I need?
2 connectors to link card 1 - 2 and card 2 - 3?

Q2. I want to use quick disconnects where possible with 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD tubing to x3 nvidia 680 water blocks but what do I use to connect a tube to a gpu?
Is it VL4N Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling Male, Threaded G3/8? Not sure as I dont' see what's compatible with it...

Q3. Do I have to use a male on the gpu water block connector or does it not matter?

Q4. Do I need quick disconnects to link pump 1 to the reservoir base fitting?

for the connectors, so far I have:
x12 VL4N Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling, Female for 13mm x 19mm (1/2in x 3/4in)
--x2 rad 1
--x2 res/pump 1
--x1 gpu in (do I need this?)
--x1 gpu out(do I need this?)
--x2 rad 2
--x2 pump 2
--x2 cpu

x12 VL4N Quick Disconnect No-Spill Coupling Male, Threaded G 3/8 (is this right???)
--x2 rad 1
--x2 res/pump 1
--x2 rad 2
--x2 pump 2
--x2 cpu
--x1 gpu in (do I need this?)
--x1 gpu out(do I need this?)

X2 gpu connectors (To link 3 gpus)

once I know what I need, I'll place a nice big order with one of your resellers here in the UK ;) (have the non connector stuff in shopping basket ready for ordering)

Q1: If you want direct connections you would need 2 Dual Vid connectors
either
http://koolance.com/dual-video-connecto ... ot-spacing
or
http://koolance.com/dual-vid-connector- ... ot-spacing
depending on the spacing

Being threaded on both sides they can connect 2 cards together.

Q2/Q3: A VL4N fitting will combine with a VL4N female fitting, mix and match to get what you need. However please note for example the VL4N you linked "G 3/8 BSPP threaded" where the 680 water block is "Fitting threading is standard G 1/4 BSPP". I believe the VL3N series comes in G1/4 threading but please confirm before making a purchase.

Q4: There are 2 sides to a QDC

Side A
Threaded
Barb
Compression

Side B
The actual QDC portion being either male or female.

Male threading will fit into a block but you still need to link 1 male and 1 female QDC end together.

Thought a picture may help from left to right, compression, female VL3N, male VL3N, compression fitting.

Q4: You disasseble the normal PMP-450 that comes from koolance and you re-assemble it with the parts included in the base fitting kit. It doesn't come with the compression fittings but it comes with everything to connect the pump to the new base.

Thanks!
so if I buy the adapter to change bspp from 1/4 to 3/4, it will work?

are there any advantages of having the vl4n over the vl3n as connectivity seems limited without the adapter and I'm wondering if the adapter will affect the flow rate in any way...

from what I seen, most blocks have 1/4 bspp fits why doesn't the vl4n have one?
ok getting 2 pumps so is it 1 compression fitting for pump 1 and 2 for pump 2? (as pump 1 is connected to pump / res base)
