RAM-35 in 6x configuration on X58?

Postby ddrueding » Sun Dec 13, 2009 9:55 pm

Hi, new here, and I'm sure this has been answered before, but I did search and can't find it.

I'm planning to water cool for the first time, and can't figure out how I'll be able to use RAM-35s in the tight configuration of an X58 motherboard (Specifically the Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME).

The documentation shows that in order to get two adjacent memory slots connected, you need a 180-degree connector. I can't see how this would work with three adjacent slots, a small gap, and three more adjacent slots. Is there a diagram handy?

Thanks!

(system specs below, all air cooled at the moment)

i7EE@4Ghz, 12GB RAM@1600MHz, 2x160GB X25-M G2, 2x 32GB X25-E, HD5870, Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme, Intel Pro/1000 Dual Port, Antec P-183, Antec CP-850, 7 Ultimate

If you look at the very top of page three "Using 5 or More Ram-35 coolers" that paragraph and digram shows you what you need to do. You simply take 7 & 8 away and put the nozzles on 5 & 6.

If you look at the connectors page here there are 5 different lengths for the strait connections. Shorter ones would be used between the groupings of 3 (1-2-3 & 4-5-6) and 2 longer ones to go over the gap (3-4).

In case anyone is interested, the spacing on this board is 3 sets of 2.

(in millimeters)

8.5-11-8.5-11-8.5

Now, in order to get the alternating ones in parallel as the manual suggests, the spacing would be 19.5mm. This falls exactly in between CNT-ME0 and CNT-ME1. In addition to the 6 RAM-35 units, I would need 8 sliding connections of whatever size, a CNT-MEU 180-degree unit, and a pair of nozzles.

Any advice what size sliding connection to get? I'm tempted to get the 20mm, I think the memory can flex half a mm.
