FB-DIMM compatibility

Postby wbstory » Wed Jun 24, 2009 4:52 pm

Hello.
I plan to use RAM-35 water cooling block in my 2U-Rack server.
It uses Samsung FB-DIMM DDR2 2G X 6
When I search RAM-35 Product information, it can be compatible with FB-DIMM.
But in Korea homepage, they wrote it CANNOT fit with FB-DIMM.
As you know, FB-DIMM has one controller chip in the middle of the module, and it is thicker than memory chip. I think when I installed this component with FB-DIMM, it should make a gap between memory chip and heat plate.

My question is :
Is RAM-35 fit with FB-DIMM module?
If not, you planned to develope it?

Thanks.

FB-DIMMs are probably not going to work. If there was a way to safely remove the AMB heat spreader and leave a thinner profile, some *might* work with the RAM-35. But I think the RAM-33 or RAM-35 products are generally incompatible because they have fixed widths (unlike the previous RAM-30-V06). The US website descriptions have been updated.

Currently, we do not have plans to produce an FB compatible version. If we do, however, it would probably be a considerably different design.

So Koolance provides several really nice server cooling units and server socket cooling blocks, but no server memory cooling blocks......?
