For Sale - Koolance 1200W Liquid-Cooled Power Supply

Postby Killabee » Sun Jan 24, 2010 5:23 am

I have a USED Koolance 1200W Liquid-Cooled Power Supply

I paid $495.00 for this brand-new from Performance-pcs.com
Im asking $300.00 for mine.

I only used this for about 6 months before i deployed to Afghanistan. This PSU does exactly what it was designed to do. put out massive amounts of power. Im selling this PSU to help me get funds for another PSU that is compatible with my matrox triplehead2go box. There is nothing wrong with this PSU. I also have the original packaging and book that came with it. If you have any other questions please let me know. Also please note that this item has been discontinued by Koolance. I dont know why, so if you have any info on the reasons post that up as well.

The patented Koolance PSU-1200ATX-12S features 96A (simultaneous 12V@85A) over four 12V rails, and 4 PCI-Express connectors for SLI™ and CrossFire support. It is able to unleash 1200W of continuous (1400W peak) power at greater than 80% efficiency by operating in a completely submerged state. This patent-pending design is superior to even "partly" water cooled and heatpipe power supplies. All internal electronics are immersed in a non-conductive fluid and dissipated through an external heat exchanger.

Being self-cooled, Koolance's 1200W PSU requires no connections to any other type of water cooling system. The unit comes pre-filled and no ongoing coolant maintenance is required. The quiet 120mm LED fan is temperature-controlled and operates between 25-33dBA. An included temperature sensor allows internal monitoring when used with compatible Koolance systems (TMS, RP-1000, PC3-700, Exos-2, and PC4-1000 series).

The PSU-1200ATX-12S can be used in most ATX, E-ATX, and BTX chassis that provide for 9" (23cm) power supply depths, including cable space. The external heat exchanger is highly adjustable to maximize chassis compatibility. Being slightly wider than the internal power supply, it can be rotated 180° and moved vertically 2" (5cm) to help avoid physical conflicts. Quick disconnect shutoff valves allow for the convenient attachment of the heat exchanger during installation.

NOTE: The PSU-1200ATX-12S will operate in two mounted directions (standard/upright and on its side). Please see the user manual for details.

I believe the reason they discontinued the standalone versions are as follows.Unlike the newer ones it isn't as maintenance free. The quick disconnects are not the newer no spill ones so fluid is lost overtime when you take it in and out of cases, thus overtime you will need to eventually refill it. The fluid inside not being standard fluid is a bit more expensive. The new ones don't have this same issue as the fluid used to submerge the components are sealed, and the plate heat exchanger means none of it should be lost even over time.

I have had mine since they were first released (near Jan 2007 according to the product page) and I'm really close to needing to get my hands on some fluid to top it off. But I do take mine in and out of the case when doing mods etc. If longer periods between attaching and removing the back fluid will last longer.

thanks

I had a customer inquire about the fluid a while back and I contacted Koolance about it. They informed me the fluid was more than the PSU was worth and would dissipate if exposed to air...

I would think it would be the same fluid they use in immersed transformers. You're right, the stuff isn't cheap, but it isn't THAT expensive. :o

the only time i have disconnected the hoses is during the install. Other than that there has been no fluid discharged from my PS. The reservoir is still full.
