TMS-200 + Expansion - How many fans can I expect to manage?

Postby rgeneson » Mon Aug 24, 2009 10:28 pm

I'm looking at purchasing a TMS-200 w/expansion to control a double-loop set-up with two 120X3 radiators. I notice the maximum amperage for the board is listed at 6.5, does the expansion board expand this limit? Has anyone had any luck with multiple sets of daisy chained fans (say two or even three 4-fan wiring harnesses connected to a single TMS-200)? Also, what is the maximum Watts value for the TMS200 + expansion board, would it be on the order of 78 (6.5 amps X 12 Volts)? I'm building out a Mountain-Mods Ascension so I've got a LOT of fans I could possibly control and I'm trying to understand what the upper limit is. My fans draw between .40 and .74 amps.

6.5A is the TMS' Molex connector limit. The expansion board could not allow for a higher consumption since it shares power through the main board.

This is the response I received from Koolance technical support:

We do not recommend higher than 2 amps per fan header and 3 amps per pump header. The maximum voltage is always 12v so 24w and 36w are the maximum draw respectively.

They should have added the 6.5A caveat for the whole main plus expansion board like you did.
