Gigabyte GeForce GTX580 or ASUS GeForce GTX580

Postby Dark » Tue Feb 15, 2011 10:27 pm

Hi there,

Before I go and splash out on a pair of:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX580 - 1536MB GDDR5 - (795MHz, 4008MHz)

OR

ASUS GeForce GTX580 - 1536MB GDDR5 - (782MHz, 4008MHz)

Can i double check with anyone please if the Koolance WB's I have ordered (VID-NX580 (GeForce GTX 580/570)) fit either of these.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards,
Dark

Once the specific distributor fan casing has been removed it's the same reference card everyone gets from Nvidia so it should fit just fine. I use these blocks on my EVGA 580's without a problem and they work beautifully.

Just so we are absolutely clear...yet again through a distinct lack of pre or post sales service from Koolance...caveat emptor.

ASUS GeForce GTX580 Direct CUII 1536MB GDDR5 cards are completely incompatible with (VID-NX580 (GeForce GTX 580/570)).

$1,500 odd later...stupid me.

I just think that it isnt hard to specifically state which models they based their template off...list them. Somewhere.

So rather than saying as a cover all:

NOTE: This product is for NVIDIA reference layouts only. It will not fit video cards that have been changed from the reference spec.

Simply list the ones that you know do fit it.

With all the revisions across the board it's nearly impossible to confirm all the models that fit a particular product. Under stand that reference design is based on the original nvdia PCB layout. Once a card is released, manufactures will revise the board and alter the PCB all together. These revised boards are not compatible with reference design blocks.

To prevent this from happening for other customers I've started this thread:

Response from ASUS (which is where i should have gone first):

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
The ENGTX580/2DI/1536MD5 is a reference design card, but the ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5 isn't. But I don't suggest you to use water cooling, it will affect the warranty of the card.

Hell, Agree its difficult given the number. But for the 580's for example there are probably only 11 mainstream cards. Thats not a lot to review if your making and cutting a waterblock on a commercial basis. Just a thought.

Regards,
Dark.

i understand your pain dude, i have 2 lol
but i read some reviews and these run very quiet, so it looks like none of the major waterblock manufactures are going to be making one for these cards, so to heck with them, i am just gonna watercool my cpu, but not with one of theirs,
its not your fault koolance admin, you are nothing more than a distributor.

Not sure where you got your information from, but according to the EK website they have no plans to make a full coverage block.
