NB, SB & VReg cooling for Crosshair Formula 2 Mobo's

Postby Dayeo78 » Wed May 06, 2009 5:19 am

Off the wall question for you AMD users. I wondering if anyone is using this Mobo and cooling the NB, SB & Vreg along with the Nvidia 295 GPU's? I'm looking into applying cooling to those components along with a pair of 295's SLI'd and wondering if I'm going to have any clearence issue between my GPU's and the plates for the board. Trolling the forums now has me a little concerned. Thanks again...

I am using this board with a pair of GTX280's and cooling it all with Koolance blocks. I chose to do a dual-loop partly because it was hard to get the 13mm tubing to turn sharp enough to hit all the blocks. I also partly did dual loops for more control. I figured the chipset loop could run the pump on low as well as the fans and the CPU/GPU loops would need more but that turned out not to be true at all.

Remember that this board recommends using PCI-ex 16 slots one and 3 and to skip the middle one unless you are doing a 3 way SLI.

Here's a link to my system: http://forums.koolance.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=375

After having to RMA my motherboard (in my opinion because of the Koolance's inferior mounting system on the generic blocks), I custom-made my mounts using local hardware parts.

I actually just bought the Asus M4N82 Deluxe for another build and the board layout is the exact same but the slightly older Crosshair II Formula board has more OC options so I think I will stick with it.

Thanks Bambihunter. I don't suppose you have overall picture of the CF2 Mobo. I'm currently on a business trip and I don't have it in front of me to remember the placement of the Vreg, SB & NB in comparsion to the where the two video cards will rest. If you don't no worries. Thanks again for the help...

The link above shows it about as well as any other pictures I have. I didn't really take to many pics before the build. Most have been since I finished it. I will be glad to share my mounting system method should you too find the factory units unsatisfactory. One thing I had to do on my V-reg block is to actually use the motherboard mount to mount the block to. The way the all-in-one heatpipe is designed it is great as it is, but when you pull it off to water cool, the V-reg block's support holes are all on the same side which makes it lean. I just used a motherboard stand-off to mount mine to.

Thanks again bambihunter. I read your earlier post which is what put me on this tangent. I've been looking a round for possible plate configurations from other manifactures and was to able find a generic N780 SB/NB coverplate but pheasability for that plate is porbably not and I haven't found any cross relating data if it could support the CF2 board. Just looking for some further guidence with out going overboard buying stuff for this rig.

Did you ever get anything built for your CHII?

Not yet Bambi. I'm on travel for the next two to four months so once I get back home I'll get everything ordered and give it a go. Thanks for the help...
