RP-1000 BK high pitched whine

Postby Pianosdr » Tue Dec 09, 2014 10:09 am

Hello,

[edited for brevity]

I have an RP-1000 BK pump+res (now discontinued evidently), and just last night the pump began emitting a constant, loud, high pitched squeal. I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it. Any ideas?

Is there a significant difference between the pmp-300 and 400? Enough to make the extra money worth it?

You can disassemble the RP unit and replace the pump if the pump is failing. It isn't impossible just takes some times and care to not damage over tighten etc during the process.

The noise could be a failing pump, it could also be cavitation it would be worthwhile to check for leaks, recent drops in fluid levels, or circulation of air bubbles.

The noise/performance difference between the PMP-300 and the PMP-400 will always steer me towards the PMP-400. And the RP-1000 is several years old now, inflation cost of parts etc raise over the years. Better control boards, materials etc as well. I think the first RP-1000 I had my hands on was probably over 5 years ago now when it was available as a KIT-1000 package.

You can also choose from the PMP-450 combo's and simply attach a single PMP-450 instead of two if you have room for to mount it.

Edit: side note about the different flow rates. There are different wattage of PMP-400 pumps made, you can actually buy replacement internal boards that change the wattage in turn changing the flow rate and noise produced by the pump.
