EVGA GTX 285 FTW not fitting VID-NX285

Postby Hardware_Mark » Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:06 pm

I just got the waterblock for my GTX 285 FTW edition. I have the newer ftw edition, with the eVGA backplate. The waterblock doesn't fit properly, in two places that I can tell. One, there is a capacitator that prohibits the block from sitting down on the card. Also, it seems the mosfets (?) are pushed further away from the gpu core, so the waterblock doesn't sit down flush. Any solutions to this coming soon?

Unfortunately, it hasn't been decided yet what we will do for revised 285s and 295s. For a long time this was not a problem with nVidia cards, because nVidia enforced reference design standards fairly strictly. It seems they're becoming a lot more lax regarding non-reference boards very quickly.

Good to know. I'm guessing this relates to the comment that 285 blocks don't fit the new EVGA 285s? I'm curious but.. how do I know if I got a "new" 285, vs one on which the block might fit?

I wish Koolance will release the new revision for the GTX 285 soon because I just bought two new EVGA GTX 285 and none of the current waterblocks fit in  . DangerDen already has their new revision but It too expensive. I hope Koolance will release their too and cheap of course. Soon, all the GTX 285s will base on the new PCB layouts so the currents will discontinue that mean the current Koolance WB won't live for long.

thank you !!
